Point of Convergence – A Musical and Dance Voyage developed by Arsenio Diaz – is a program that recognizes and respects cultural differences by promoting the understanding of ethnic heritage through music and dance. The main purpose of this program is to bring awareness about the need to preserve heritage, traditions, and culture.
The performance features the use of ethnic instruments such as the Sitar, Tabla drums, Bata drums, and Suona horn (to name a few) to highlight the mesmerizing and skillful Afro-Cuban and Indian dances. This multi-disciplinary show is a journey through music and dance that starts with traditional and ceremonial pieces of each of these differing cultures, eventually joining one another on stage to show us the points of similarities these two seemingly differing cultures actually hold. We therefore hope to present an original, didactic, and exceptional performance that will be fascinating, educational, and accessible to our community. The approach to this project is rooted on the conversion of ethnicities and the celebration of multiculturalism and will be performed by artists from our local community – artists with an Indo-American and Afro-Latin heritage. The skills, experience, and expertise of the performers, along with the ravishing sonorities and dances, will delight and awe the audience with a performance that embodies the heritage, traditions, and culture of many of our communities in the South Florida area.
