DESCRIPTION:Koubek Center presents HIJOS DE LA DIASPORA \nA documentary screening (Spanish film with English subtitles) \nSynopsis: From Scotland to Ecuador\, passing through Canada\, Spain\, and Angola\, 21 young Cubans who grew up in 9 countries outside the island tell their experiences of adaptation living between two cultures and the survival of the Cuban identity despite their stories of familial rupture and alienation. \nHijos de la Diaspora is a documentary that investigates the persistence of Cuban culture in recent generations of the diaspora. The 21 participants represent different moments and ways of emigrating from Cuba. Several of them have never visited the island or have vague memories. The documentary investigates the experience of having lived between two cultures: the Cuban home and the country where they grew up. Those interviewed have been raised in the US\, Canada\, Venezuela\, Colombia\, Ecuador\, Mexico\, and Spain\, among others. \nDirector: Lunes Oña \nProducer: Ileana Perez Drago and Always Lunes \nSound: Manuel Hernandez \nMusic: Hilda Oramas\, Boris Larramendi\, Son de Oro \nLength: 60 minutes \nYear: December 2023 \nDirector’s Bio: \nLunes Oña is a creative director and filmmaker. He was born and raised in a Cuban household in Madrid\, lived in Panama for three years\, and moved to Miami in 2017 where he finished high school. He’s a Film\, TV\, and Digital Production major at SEDT MDC graduating in 2025. \nIn 2019 Oña founded Always Lunes\, a creative community platform recognized by Miami New Times as ‘Best Instagram of Miami 2023’\, known for its ‘What’s Up? South Florida’ weekly underground calendar covering Miami and Broward\, and recurring self-produced live music underground events.
