DESCRIPTION:Koubek Center presents the next Little Havana Social Club event\, Tambores II. The second edition of the popular Tambores’s event that takes the audience on a journey through the Americas celebrating its African-rooted music and dance traditions\, from the Caribbean to the birthplace of samba and capoeira. Featuring groups from Perú\, Colombia\, Bahamas\, Brazil and Africa.  Tambores celebrates the drumming tradition present in the Americas and the Caribbean\, from one of its African sources through the different variants\, shaped by geography\, economics\, religious beliefs and colonial history. Drums are the beating heart of music created to dance\, celebrate\, and speak to the heavens. \nHosted by multi-disciplinary puertorican artist\, Bri La Pelúa as DJ and MC with her unique an infectious Caribbean energy. Koubek’s Little Havana Social Club signature program channels the spirit of a fiesta de barrio (neighborhood party)\, informed by the many sounds and flavors of Latin American and Caribbean traditions but with a twist of contemporary Miami.

DESCRIPTION:The Koubek Center will bring an intimate and experimental Flamenco performance featuring the new generation of artists who are paving the way for a new way of understanding and seeing Flamenco. We present artists from Spain who can experiment in an intimate space and offer our audiences the same experience of an authentic tablao. Flamenco En Dos Orillas is an artistic residency featuring the unique collaboration between artists from Spain and local artists from Miami who will work together for a week to create a new work to be presented to the community as a public event. DESCRIPTION:Koubek Center is excited to announce DISC-COVER @ Koubek\, a new program that spotlights new musical releases by homegrown artists.  The Koubek will partner with local artists throughout the year by hosting concerts highlighting the exciting new music being released in our Magic City! \nPostcards is a rocking\, symphonic sophomore album from Miami-based Lemon City Trio. Nick Tannura (guitar)\, Brian Robertson (synth/keys)\, and Aaron Glueckauf (drums) bring a lot to the table. \nTannura plays lead lines with the presence of a vocalist. Robertson arranges with the touch of a film composer — he is one — broadening the instrumentation while always keeping the song laser focused on melody. Glueckauf\, meanwhile\, is a human beat machine\, the tasty backbone of everything else happening in the music. \nProgressive rock\, jazz fusion\, contemporary Saharan music\, the aforementioned hip hop and funk — the name Postcards is a reference to visiting all these musical destinations\, stopping for a spell in each and sending something back home. DESCRIPTION:The Koubek Center is proud to host a Pink+Magic=Jam! on March 7 featuring bassist drummer Julian Babou (from the island of Reunion)\, Sonny Troupe (Guadaloupe)\, and trumpeter Etienne Charles\, a Miami resident born in Trinidad. The Leesa Richards Quartet and Jean Caze Quartet headline the opening night concert on Friday\, May 3rd. Richards\, a vocalist\, songwriter\, and dancer\, has proven comfortable and effective in singing jazz\, soul\, and R&B\, performing with artists such as Faith Hill\, The Bee Gees\, and Gloria Estefan and appearing on the Broadway musical Jesus Christ Superstar national tour. Haitian-American trumpeter and composer Jean Caze’s credits include performing with leading artists such as Aretha Franklin\, Herbie Hancock\, and Michael Bublé. DESCRIPTION:El escritor cubano César Pérez presentará su libro “La capital del sol”\, una “tragicomedia en tres actos” editada por Bokeh\, como parte del Festival MIAMY en el Koubek Center a las 7PM\, en una presentación donde leerán escenas de su obra celebrados actores de Miami. \nCésar Pérez (Vueltas\, Villa Clara\, 1973) es poeta\, dramaturgo\, traductor y novelista inédito. Estudió periodismo en la Universidad de La Habana y maestrías en literaturas hispánicas en University of Iowa y Harvard University\, donde se especializó en literatura medieval. Desde 2004 reside en Boston\, Massachusetts.
