DESCRIPTION:El escritor cubano César Pérez presentará su libro “La capital del sol”\, una “tragicomedia en tres actos” editada por Bokeh\, como parte del Festival MIAMY en el Koubek Center a las 7PM\, en una presentación donde leerán escenas de su obra celebrados actores de Miami. \nCésar Pérez (Vueltas\, Villa Clara\, 1973) es poeta\, dramaturgo\, traductor y novelista inédito. Estudió periodismo en la Universidad de La Habana y maestrías en literaturas hispánicas en University of Iowa y Harvard University\, donde se especializó en literatura medieval. Desde 2004 reside en Boston\, Massachusetts. Como parte del programa\, los participantes tienen acceso a las aulas y al estudio de ensayo del Koubek Center para desarrollar nuevos proyectos\, investigar\, crear y colaborar. The Leesa Richards Quartet and Jean Caze Quartet headline the opening night concert on Friday\, May 3rd. Richards\, a vocalist\, songwriter\, and dancer\, has proven comfortable and effective in singing jazz\, soul\, and R&B\, performing with artists such as Faith Hill\, The Bee Gees\, and Gloria Estefan and appearing on the Broadway musical Jesus Christ Superstar national tour. Haitian-American trumpeter and composer Jean Caze’s credits include performing with leading artists such as Aretha Franklin\, Herbie Hancock\, and Michael Bublé. The following evening will be a trio showcase featuring three-time GRAMMY-nominated Negroni Trio\, led by pianist Jose Negroni and Washington D.C. area bassist Noah Nipp and his Double N Trio. \nEl Koubek Center celebra “el sonido de la sorpresa”\, como la llamó un gran crítico\, con la segunda edición de Jazz @ Koubek. Este evento de dos noches\, los días 3 y 4 de mayo a las 8pm ofrecerá la oportunidad de disfrutar de talentos consagrados y descubrir a la nueva generación del jazz. Robertson arranges with the touch of a film composer — he is one — broadening the instrumentation while always keeping the song laser focused on melody. Glueckauf\, meanwhile\, is a human beat machine\, the tasty backbone of everything else happening in the music. \nProgressive rock\, jazz fusion\, contemporary Saharan music\, the aforementioned hip hop and funk — the name Postcards is a reference to visiting all these musical destinations\, stopping for a spell in each and sending something back home. What has distinguished López’s career since its beginnings has been his approach\, aiming at putting the timple on the global stage and exploring its possibilities in fusions beyond traditional music. \nLópez\, accompanied by his quintet and special guests\, including Cuban singer Aymeé Nuviola\, fresh from her performance at the Latin GRAMMYs\, and legendary percussionist Sammy Figueroa\, will perform at Miami Dade College’s Koubek Center on Friday\, November 18. This evening\, López will present his new album\, Alma (Virgin Music)\, his fifth under his own name but the first on an international label. This release on a global platform marks a new stage in López’s career and in his idea of continuing to expand the projection of the instrument.

DESCRIPTION:Little Havana Social Club presentará  al percusionista\, compositor\, cantante\, productor y arreglista colombiano Humberto Ibarra y su Cumbia Mayor; al grupo de danza colombiano de la Organización Cultural y Folclórica Puerta de Oro; y a Los Pascual\, un grupo dominicano exponente del merengue tradicional y la bachata liderados por los hermanos Reylin y Oniver Pascual\, con el productor venezolano Mr. Pauer como DJ y maestro de ceremonias. \nLittle Havana Social Club es un programa exclusivo del Koubek Center que evoca los sonidos y el espíritu de la “Fiesta de barrio” con un toque contemporáneo de Miami. DESCRIPTION:“Ella” es la nueva producción discográfica de la violinista Daniela Padrón y la pianista Glenda del E\, en la cual hacen homenaje a la mujer latinoamericana. Juntas hacen un viaje musical por 7 países latinos interpretando en el formato clásico de violín y piano 11 obras compuestas por mujeres latinoamericanas\, algunas concebidas originalmente para un formato instrumental y otras que rompen el esquema trayendo a esta modalidad de dúo el bolero\, el bambuco y hasta el rock. El proyecto incluye desde clásicos del cancionero latinoamericano como “Bésame Mucho” de Consuelo Velázquez\, “Noche de Ronda” de Ma. Teresa Lara\, hasta “Dr Psiquiatra” de Gloria Trevi y “Te aviso\, te anuncio” de Shakira.

DESCRIPTION:We continue with Flamenco Sound Series which features a musical and dance recital between Jerez’s David Carpio\, known for his interest in taking traditional Flamenco to a new place\, who will be joined by long-time collaborator Francisco Vinuesa on guitar. As is Carpio’s style to collaborate with other artists\, the Spanish artists will be joined by Miami’s Irene Lozano who will add a touch of dance to this authentic Flamenco musical recital.

SUMMARY:Flamenco Entre Dos Orillas
DESCRIPTION:The Koubek Center will be working with internationally renowned Flamenco Festival to bring an intimate and experimental Flamenco music series featuring the new generation of artists who are paving the way for a new way of understanding and seeing Flamenco. We present artists from Spain who can experiment in an intimate space and offer our audiences the same experience of an authentic tablao. \nFlamenco Entre Dos Orillas is an artistic residency featuring the unique collaboration between artists from Spain and local artists from Miami who will work together for a week to create a new work to be presented to the community as a public event. From Jerez de la Frontera\, Santiago Lara\, one the most respected names in the new generation of Spanish guitarists\, will be joined by Miami’s own la “Princesa del Son” Leslie Cartaya and one of Miami’s most sought out percussionist\, Venezuelan musician Adolfo Herrera to develop a new work that fuses the musical traditions of these three talented artists.

SUMMARY:Little Havana Social Club
DESCRIPTION:Little Havana Social Club  channels the spirit of a fiesta de barrio (neighborhood party)\, informed by the many sounds and flavors of Latin American and Caribbean traditions but with a twist of contemporary Miami. This edition of LHSC is a journey through Latin American and African cultures as seen through percussion\, and more specifically the influence of the African drum on the variety of rhythms found in the American continent. A musical journey through Uruguay with its Candombe\, Cuba with its Bata\, Haiti with its Rara\, Venezuela with its Culo e’ Puya and Africa with its Doum Doum and Djembe. \nLive performances by: \nTOCANDO CANDOMBE a style of music and dance that originated in Uruguay among the descendants of liberated African slaves\, and that features three different drums: chico\, repique\, and piano drums \nSON MANDINGA features brothers Andrés and Guillermo Schloeter who highlight the Afro-Venezuelan sounds from the coasts of their birthplace Aragua in Venezuela. \nYORUBA ROOTS will play a selection of Afro-Cuban batá rhythms and chants featuring Rene Pedroso: iyá\, Manuel Clua: itótele\, Michael Gil: okónkolo\, Demian El Buddha: voice\, and guest artists: Eduardo Rodriguez and Arsenio Diaz. \nDJIAN TIÉ  percussion and dance from the West Coast of Africa led by internationally acclaimed choreographer and drummer Djian Tié and his group. \nDJAWENTO Haitian drumming group that highlight the influence of  West African drumming traditions within traditional Haitian rhythms.

SUMMARY:Eduardo Padron Campus Honors College Colloquiums @ Koubek Center
DESCRIPTION:It is a pleasure for the Koubek Center to host some of the colloquia with students of Eduardo Padron Campus’s Honors College. Part of the mission of the Honors College is to inspire students to be well-rounded citizens of the world. Fittingly\, the series at Koubek began with a stirring conversation on October 21st led by choreographer and dancer Irene Lozano\, director of the Flamenco Dance Institute\, the official school in the United States of the Escuela de Flamenco de Andalucía (Andalusia Flamenco School). The next encounter featured Miami’s own Haitian American multi-disciplinary artist and educator Inez Barlatier. It was an opportunity for students to learn about and explore\, hands -on\, the music\, culture and history of Haiti with an extraordinary performer. The final encounter this year will feature Cuban multi-instrumentalist and composer Michael Gil on December 2 who will take students on a musical journey featuring ancestral instruments of different global indigenous cultures.

SUMMARY:Little Havana Social Club (Leslie Cartaya + Celia Cruz All Stars)
DESCRIPTION:Establecido en 2015\, el Little Havana Social Club es una serie de conciertos y fiestas bailables creados en el espíritu de las fiestas de barrio\, una tradición en América Latina y el Caribe\, que incluye actuaciones musicales\, baile\, juegos al aire libre\, muestras de arte visual\, comidas\, y actividades para toda la familia. Cada evento ofrece muestras de la enorme diversidad de sonidos\, sabores\, y costumbres de nuestras raíces latinas con un toque del Miami cosmopolita de hoy. \nLa cantante cubana Leslie Cartaya lleva en su sangre los ritmos de su tierra\, pero a la vez\, la influencia del jazz y el funk americano han moldeado su personalidad artística hasta alcanzar un estilo musical propio y muy original. Leslie\, la princesa del Son\, se presentó como solista  en el 2013 con su primera producción discográfica denominada “No pares”. Los ritmos de la música caribeña\, Afroamericana\, Afrocubana y Latinoamericana se fusionaron de forma armónica en este álbum que contiene 19 temas\, de los cuales 18 son escritos por Leslie. Leslie también es co-fundadora de la agrupación musical PALO! cuyo disco titulado “This is Afrocuban Funk”\, ha recibido múltiples reconocimientos e incluso fue catalogado por el New York Post como “la música cubana de la nueva generación”. PALO! crea un estilo de música único fusionando el Funk Americano con ritmos Afrocubanos introduciendo elementos del Jazz y la improvisación catalogado por el  Miami New Times como Best Latin Band 2014. Leslie nos presentó su segundo disco como solista “Llévame Contigo” en el 2015. Este disco propuso al igual que No Pares una variedad de géneros donde se mantuvieron el son\, la salsa y el pop del primer disco pero también la cantautora incursiono en nuevos géneros como el reggae\, el vallenato y la bachata. Leslie también continua produciendo para su disquera No Pares Records logrando productos como SonLokos’s debut album “Locos por El Son” nominado a un Latin Grammy 2015 como Mejor Album Tropical Tradicional mientras también continúa componiendo\, un arte que ha tenido la dicha de compartir con compositores de la talla de  Jorge Luis Piloto\, Descemer Bueno\, Elain\, Ángel Arce\, Steve Roitstein\, Philbert Armenteros\, Alexis Valdes\, Mr. Haka\, Michel Fragoso\, El Chino Dreadlion\, Raymer Olalde\, Adriana Foster\, Pavel Núñez\, Latin Fresh\, Marisela Verena\, Pedrito Martinez\, Roman Diaz y sus primos Pepin y Roly Rivero. \nPor más de medio siglo\, la irrepetible Celia Cruz nos deleitó con su talento\, su alegría y su inconfundible voz. Su música sigue inspirando y complaciendo a sus admiradores quienes extrañan sus talentos únicos. Con esa idea nace Celia Cruz All Stars\, una banda integrada por músicos jóvenes de primera línea que se reúnen para homenajear la música que inmortalizó la Guarachera de Cuba. Celia Cruz All Stars revive parte del repertorio de la Reina de la Salsa con temas como “La Negra Tiene Tumbao”\, “Quimbara”\, “Usted Abusó”\, “La Vida Es un Carnaval”\, “Guantanamera”\, “Bemba Colorá”\, entre muchos otros. Celia Cruz All Stars mantendrá su legado vivo para que pueda ser disfrutado por sus admiradores y para que sea conocido y difundido a generaciones futuras. Celia Cruz All Stars\, bajo la dirección de Braily Ramos\, ha ofrecido conciertos y participado en festivales de música a nivel nacional e internacional en Mexico\, USA\, Peru y Colombia. \nLittle Havana Social Club contará nuevamente como presentador y DJ a Mr. Pauer\, cuyo original sonido Electrópico es una mezcla de estilos de raíces caribeñas y ritmos bailables electrónicos.
