SUMMARY:Cosmic Curiosity
DESCRIPTION:COSMIC CURIOSITY The Life and Times of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz\nWritten & Directed by Carmen Peláez \nCosmic Curiosity brings to life the story of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz\, a 17th-century Mexican nun\, poet\, and scholar whose love for learning defied expectations. At a time when education for women was rare\, she pursued knowledge with determination\, becoming one of the most influential literary figures of her era. \nThis engaging play blends Sor Juana’s writings with imagined moments from her daily life\, exploring her intellectual journey\, her decision to enter the convent\, and the challenges she faced. Cosmic Curiosity captures an era when poets\, scientists\, and philosophers were shaping the world through discovery and debate. \nWritten and directed by Carmen Peláez\, a Miami-based award-winning playwright\, actress\, and director (Fake\, The Cuban Vote\, Rum & Coke). She is a 2023 MacDowell Fellow\, Ellie Award recipient\, and HBO NYLFF Short Film Competition winner. As a dedicated teaching artist\, she helps young people develop their own plays. \nA small ensemble of professional actors will bring Cosmic Curiosity to the stage\, making Sor Juana’s story engaging and accessible. Through historical texts and theatrical storytelling\, the play explores her unconventional education\, her path to becoming a writer\, and her lasting influence. \nAudiences will follow her journey from a self-taught child prodigy to the first Hispanic woman to publish a book in Spain\, building a library of 4\,000 books. Once nearly forgotten\, she is now celebrated as a literary icon\, even appearing on the 100 Mexican peso bill. \nWith humor\, drama\, and poetry\, Cosmic Curiosity highlights a woman whose passion for learning still inspires today. \nKoubek Center Theatre\nStudent Matinees: January 28\, 29 & 30\nPublic Performance: Saturday January 31st at 3 PM\n\nFree Parking!

SUMMARY:RESET
DESCRIPTION:By Alfonso Barón\, Luciano Cortés\, and Luciano Rosso \nFUNDarte\, Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series\, and The Koubek Center presentRESET. \nIn RESET\, performers Alfonso Barón\, Luciano Cortés\, and Luciano Rosso create a striking physical theater experience where the body emerges as the last truly human territory. Through extreme gesture\, absurdist humor\, and hypnotic choreographic precision\, the piece offers a powerful reflection on the personal and collective resets that define our time. \nThe title evokes the logic of technology—shutting down to begin again\, clearing errors\, restarting overloaded systems—but the performance transforms that idea into an existential metaphor. The performers’ bodies seem caught in loops of behavior and repetition\, as if humanity itself were trying to reprogram after every crisis. The stage becomes a human laboratory where movement reveals both fragility and resilience. \nAt a moment when artificial intelligence is reshaping work\, communication\, and creativity\, RESET offers a response rooted in the body: in imperfection\, vulnerability\, exhaustion\, and the act of beginning again. \nAbout the artists: \nAlfonso Barón (Argentina) is an actor\, dancer\, director\, and physical theatre performer. Based in Paris since 2017\, he directs productions and teaches at a French National Higher Education School\, where he also provides choreographic and movement coaching. His work focuses on the blending of artistic languages and international touring\, with acclaimed productions including Un Poyo Rojo\, with which he continues to tour throughout the Americas\, Europe\, Asia\, and Oceania. \nLuciano Cortés (Tucumán\, Argentina) is a multifaceted artist who began his professional career at the age of 11. He trained in physical theater\, mask theater\, commedia dell’arte\, clowning\, and aerial and contemporary dance\, and has performed with world-renowned companies such as La Fura dels Baus and Fuerza Bruta. In 2018\, he moved to Miami and founded Salvaje Teatro\, a physical theater company. In 2022\, he won the Best Actor Award at the Miami Film Festival. \nLuciano Rosso (Buenos Aires\, Argentina\, 1982) is a dancer\, actor\, director\, and choreographer trained in classical\, contemporary\, African\, jazz\, and hip-hop dance. In 2009\, he co-created Un Poyo Rojo\, a physical theater work that continues to tour worldwide. In 2020\, he created Apocalipsync\, his first solo show\, which premiered at the Avignon Off Festival in July 2021. In 2025\, he continues touring while preparing a new solo performance and a new duet with the Un Poyo Rojo company. \nFriday\, August 28 & Saturday\, August 29 at 8:00 p.m.\nKoubek Center\, 2705 SW 3rd St\, Miami\, FL 33135] \nFree Valet Parking \n\nDe Alfonso Barón\, Luciano Cortés y Luciano Rosso \nFUNDarte\, la serie Away From Home del Miami-Dade County Auditorium y The Koubek Center presentan RESET.
