DESCRIPTION:Dancer and Master Instructor Marisol Blanco offers a weekly Afro-Cuban dance class that spans the history\, songs\, steps\, beats\, passion\, mysticism\, and intensity of Cuban folklore and culture. The course includes traditional ballroom dances such as the danzón\, mambo\, cha cha chá\, pilón\, mozambique\, son and the casino. Marisol will also teach dances of the Afro-Cuban heritage such as rumba (in its various expressions: yambú\, guaguancó and columbia); and of various ethnicities and African traditions including Yoruba (from the Orichas)\, Aará (Fodunes)\, Bantú (Mpungos) and also Haitian (Loaces). \nTuesdays Beginners. \nThursdays Intermediate. \nLa bailarina y profesora de baile Marisol Blanco ofrece sus clases semanales de danza afrocubana que abarcan la historia\, las canciones\, los pasos\, y la intensidad y la mística de la cultura y el folklore cubano. DESCRIPTION:n Residencia reimagines the Koubek Center as an art incubator\, a setting for discovery\, growth\, and artistic adventure for creators\, arts organizations\, and the community. En Residencia is a membership-based program that offers local artists the opportunity to use our classroom and rehearsal studio for a pre-determined period of time throughout the entire year to create work in exchange for\, on a case-to-case basis\, participation in one of Koubek Center’s programs and/or activities. \nThe goal of the program is to nurture the cultural ecosystem of Miami by engaging local artists\, regardless the discipline in which they might be working or the stage in which they are in their careers\, while facilitating the dialogue between creators and the local community. \nSoon we will announcing the selected artists for the program 2026-2027

DESCRIPTION:Two Islands is an evocative documentary that uses the art of cinematic storytelling to explore an extraordinary international cultural exchange between Afro-Cuban artists from Miami and First Nations Aboriginal artists from Australia. This collaboration delves into the rich traditions\, rituals\, and ceremonies of these two vibrant cultures. Through the exchange of ideas\, values\, and traditions\, Two Islands highlights the power of cultural connection in fostering tolerance\, acceptance\, and the continuous growth of our diverse global community. \n Directed by storyteller Humberto Ochoa\, a storyteller and photographer known for his work in documentary and portrait photography\, featuring multi-instrumentalist Michael Gil Arango and dancer/choreographer Marisol Blanco\, and produced by Melissa Messulam (Director of MDC’s Koubek Center). \nThis inspiring film was produced by Miami Dade College’s Koubek Center and was made possible thanks to the support of Miami Dade College\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, and the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs. \nTwo Islands has been selected by: \n\nMiami Film Festival (2025)\nEl Cine Suma Paz (2026) \nLatino and Native American Film Festival (2026)
