DESCRIPTION:Dancer and Master Instructor Marisol Blanco offers a weekly Afro-Cuban dance class that spans the history\, songs\, steps\, beats\, passion\, mysticism\, and intensity of Cuban folklore and culture. The course includes traditional ballroom dances such as the danzón\, mambo\, cha cha chá\, pilón\, mozambique\, son and the casino. Marisol will also teach dances of the Afro-Cuban heritage such as rumba (in its various expressions: yambú\, guaguancó and columbia); and of various ethnicities and African traditions including Yoruba (from the Orichas)\, Aará (Fodunes)\, Bantú (Mpungos) and also Haitian (Loaces). \nTuesdays Beginners. \nThursdays Intermediate. \nLa bailarina y profesora de baile Marisol Blanco ofrece sus clases semanales de danza afrocubana que abarcan la historia\, las canciones\, los pasos\, y la intensidad y la mística de la cultura y el folklore cubano. At a time when education for women was rare\, she pursued knowledge with determination\, becoming one of the most influential literary figures of her era. \nThis engaging play blends Sor Juana’s writings with imagined moments from her daily life\, exploring her intellectual journey\, her decision to enter the convent\, and the challenges she faced. Cosmic Curiosity captures an era when poets\, scientists\, and philosophers were shaping the world through discovery and debate. \nWritten and directed by Carmen Peláez\, a Miami-based award-winning playwright\, actress\, and director (Fake\, The Cuban Vote\, Rum & Coke). She is a 2023 MacDowell Fellow\, Ellie Award recipient\, and HBO NYLFF Short Film Competition winner. As a dedicated teaching artist\, she helps young people develop their own plays. \nA small ensemble of professional actors will bring Cosmic Curiosity to the stage\, making Sor Juana’s story engaging and accessible. Through historical texts and theatrical storytelling\, the play explores her unconventional education\, her path to becoming a writer\, and her lasting influence. \nAudiences will follow her journey from a self-taught child prodigy to the first Hispanic woman to publish a book in Spain\, building a library of 4\,000 books.
