It is a pleasure for the Koubek Center to host some of the colloquia with students of Eduardo Padron Campus’s Honors College. Part of the mission of the Honors College is to inspire students to be well-rounded citizens of the world. Fittingly, the series at Koubek began with a stirring conversation on October 21st led by choreographer and dancer Irene Lozano, director of the Flamenco Dance Institute, the official school in the United States of the Escuela de Flamenco de Andalucía (Andalusia Flamenco School). The next encounter featured Miami’s own Haitian American multi-disciplinary artist and educator Inez Barlatier. It was an opportunity for students to learn about and explore, hands -on, the music, culture and history of Haiti with an extraordinary performer. The final encounter this year will feature Cuban multi-instrumentalist and composer Michael Gil on December 2 who will take students on a musical journey featuring ancestral instruments of different global indigenous cultures.
